PARTICIPATION IN THE ICAO INTERNATIONAL METEOROLOGICAL WORKSHOP
Specialists of the State Unitary Enterprise “Tajikairnavigation” took part in the 24th annual joint meeting of the CIS Working Group 4 “Meteorological Services for Civil Aviation” (WG-4) and Project Team for the Implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices in Eastern Europe, including Central Asia (PT/EAST METG ICAO), which was hosted from May 18 to 21, 2026, in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
The workshop was attended by representatives of ICAO, the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC), and more than 53 experts from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and the Russian Federation.
The event also included a workshop on operational cooperation between Regional Operational Centres (ROC) and National Meteorological Operational Centres (NOC), with a focus on the exchange of information in the IWXXM digital format. At the same time, participants comprehensively discussed key aspects of modernizing the provision of meteorological services for flights, the regulatory framework for the activities of regional centers, the implementation of the IWXXM digital data transmission method in countries of the region, and the prospects for a phased transition to the SWIM information environment—a global concept for digital cooperation among all air traffic participants, including airlines, airports, meteorological services, air traffic control services, and others.
Participants thoroughly discussed global changes, including possible amendments to Annex 3 of the Chicago Convention and new PANS-MET regulations. Finally, priority national and regional actions for the implementation of the Global Air Navigation and Aviation System Modernization Plan (GANP/ASBU) were identified. A number of working documents were prepared for presentation at meetings of the Meteorological Services Delivery Group (METG) and the European Air Navigation Planning Group (EANPG).
It should be noted that the participation of SUE “Tajikairnavigation” specialists in this meeting will create a favorable environment for the exchange of experience, improving the quality of aviation meteorological services, and the implementation of industry-specific digital systems in the country.
