On April 9, 2026, the 48th meeting of the Council on Aviation and Airspace Use of the Commonwealth of Independent States was hosted in Dushanbe, chaired by Tajikistan. The Khovar news agency reported, citing the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan.
The meeting was attended by heads of civil aviation authorities and deputy transport ministers of the member states of the Interstate Aviation Committee.
The meeting was opened with welcoming remarks by the Minister of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan, Azim Ibrohim.
The meeting addressed issues of coordination in civil aviation, including flight safety, international air transport policy, airspace use and air traffic management, the implementation of agreed interstate regulations, and international standards and regulations in civil aviation.
Holding this event in Dushanbe strengthens Tajikistan’s position in the international aviation arena and creates favorable conditions for developing the country’s expertise in air transport, airport infrastructure, and expanding its route network.
As a reminder, the 47th meeting of the CIS Council on Aviation and Airspace Use was held at the Interstate Aviation Committee in Moscow on November 20.
During the meeting, by decision of the heads of delegations, the chairmanship of the CIS Council on Aviation and Airspace Use was transferred from the Russian Federation to the Republic of Tajikistan.
Since January 2026, the authorized representative of the Republic of Tajikistan, Habibullo Nazarzoda, Director of the Civil Aviation Agency under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, has chaired the CIS Council on Aviation and Airspace Use for a three-year term, by decision of the Council of the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC).
It should be noted that the Interstate Aviation Committee (IAC) is a permanent body established in 1991 to implement the Agreement on Civil Aviation and Airspace Use.
