THE WINNERS OF THE INTERNATIONAL GUSHTINGIRI TOURNAMENT FOR THE “DUSHANEBE MAYOR’S CUP-2026” WERE DETERMINED IN DUSHANBE
On April 5, 2026, the seventh International Gushtingiri Tournament dedicated to the Day of the Capital was organized in Dushanbe for the “Dushanbe Mayor’s Cup-2026”. Gushtingiri, one of the oldest national sports, holds a special place in the culture of the Tajik people and has long been considered a symbol of strength, masculinity, and respect for the opponent.
Thanks to the wise policy of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honourable Emomali Rahmon, and the continuous support of the Mayor of Dushanbe, Honourable Rustam Emomali, this sport has significantly developed and expanded in the country.
In this process, the International Wrestling Federation of Tajikistan’s contribution to the development of this sport is considered significant.
The competition was hosted at the State Institution of the Tennis Palace and Aquatics Complex, dedicated to the Day of the Capital, and athletes from more than 30 countries of the world participated in it.
The opening ceremony of the event began with a speech by the First Deputy Mayor of Dushanbe, Bakhtiyor Sharifi, who emphasized the importance of the development of national sports and its role in educating youth.
As well as the Chairman of the Committee on Youth Affairs and Sports under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, Zulfiqar Gulahmadzoda, made a speech and emphasized that such competitions contribute to strengthening friendship between nations and presenting Tajikistan in the international arena.
It was noted that the total prize money for the competition was provided by the Executive Body of State Local Authority of Dushanbe city and amounted to 100 thousand USD.
As a result of intense competition, the winners and prize-winners were determined as follows:
