A solemn event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the formation of the Air Traffic Services Department of the State Unitary Enterprise “Tajikairnavigation” was conducted with the participation of the management, specialists and veterans of the industry. In his opening speech, First Deputy Director General Davron Shodmonbekzoda, on behalf of the Director General of the SUE “Tajikairnavigation” Loik Begidjonzoda congratulated attendees with the historical date. In their speeches, participants reminded from the history of the formation of the air traffic service in the country and spoke about the modern achievements of the industry.

It is worth noting that air traffic control is one of the most important areas of aviation activity. This process includes various activities, including air traffic management, coordination of communications between pilots and air traffic controllers, as well as management of operations at airports. Air traffic control activities in the Republic of Tajikistan began on May 20, 1945, and were called the “Air Traffic Control Service”. Initially, this service was staffed by soldiers returning from the front. At that time, the Air Traffic Control Center was located in the upper part of the capital’s airport building, in the Health Department. At that time, communication with aircraft was carried out via telephone and shortwave.

The provision of the necessary air navigation conditions during the period of independence provided the Air Traffic Management Department of the enterprise with a solid foundation for the modernization of equipment providing air navigation services at the international airports of Dushanbe, Khujand, Kulob and Bokhtar, the modernization of equipment at air traffic control centers and air traffic controllers’ centers of the enterprise’s branches at the country’s airports, the establishment of the Air Navigation Information Service, and the implementation of various sectoral projects in cooperation with development partners.

Even the most advanced and modern air navigation equipment cannot function without a specialist, because all the data in these devices is entered by a specialist. In this regard, due attention has been paid to the training of air traffic control specialists – controllers, their professional retraining. With the direct support of the SUE “Tajikairnavigation” management, the department controllers are undergoing advanced training in the Republic of Azerbaijan, Japan, Singapore, the Russian Federation and other countries. At the same time, the establishment of the Aviation Training Center plays a key role in the process of retraining and improving the professional qualification of air traffic controllers.

Today, as the Air Traffic Services Department of the SUE “Tajikairnavigation” celebrates its 80th anniversary, it should be noted that the department provides its services in the airspace of the Republic of Tajikistan via 43 routes. Along with providing air navigation services, the Department has established fruitful cooperation with air traffic control centers of Central Asian countries, the Russian Federation, Europe and other regions. The opening of one of the new routes in recent years with the People’s Republic of China is evidence of this. The SUE “Tajikairnavigation” membership in prestigious international organizations and sectors, including CANSO and SOCEA, is a confirmation that the quality of the enterprise’s air navigation services is established in accordance with ICAO requirements.

At the end, veterans of the industry demonstrated modern equipment and were honoured with memorable gifts.

Taking this opportunity, we would like to congratulate all veterans of the aviation and air navigation industry, air traffic controllers, on this historic date, wishing them good health and clear skies.
