In order to further develop the national wrestling and search for new sports figures among the youth of the country on March 8 was conducted the Fifth International Tournament on National Wrestling – “Gushtingiri” for the “Cup of the Chairman of the city of Dushanbe”. The opening ceremony of the tournament was attended by the Chairman of the Majlisi Milli Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairman of Dushanbe city Rustami Emomali.

“Gushtingiri” traditional national Tajik wrestling, as the oldest example of folk sport, is rooted in our history and flows in the veins and joints of every resident of Tajikistan. Thousands of years ago, this sport was popular among Tajiks.

During the period of independence, the traditional wrestling influence in Tajikistan has also increased, and under the guidance and support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, the Chairman of Dushanbe city, Rustami Emomali, types of national sports games, especially the national wrestling “Gushtingiri” have been revived and expanded. In this process, thanks to the attention, support, and efforts of the Dushanbe city Chairman Rustami Emomali, over the past few years, Dushanbe has hosted high-level international sports competitions in national wrestling in the framework of “Cup of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan” and “Cup of the Capital of the Republic of Tajikistan”.

State and government support for the sport has lifted the spirit of Tajik wrestlers and national wrestling has been able to expand its territory inside and outside the country and create a solid foundation for achieving international status.

Initiatives of the Founder of Peace and National Unity - Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Chairman of Dushanbe city Rustami Emomali and constant victories of Tajik wrestlers have led to another important historical event and sports achievement on the sports page of the country. The national wrestling “Gushtingiri” received an international status. In this regard, the relevant document was transferred to Tajikistan by the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Switzerland on June 17, 2022.

More than 200 athletes from 39 countries took part in the tournament and demonstrated their sports skills and abilities. The amount of cash prizes of the tournament amounted to 100 thousand USD. According to tournament results, the winners and prize-winners of the 5th international competition on “Gushtingiri”, for the “Cup of the Chairman of the City of Dushanbe”, were determined.  At this tournament, Tajik wrestlers showed high sportsmanship and won gold medals in 4 out of 7 weights included in the tournament.
